With his Japanese deemed a little strange, and asked if he grew up elsewhere, Hiyakawa answers it is because he was never a chatty sort of person. With Mikado's diet factoring into an exorcism, Hiyakawa treats him to steak after they finish. With that, Hiyakawa no longer struggles to justify the things he feels. When spirits are faced with the life force of humans, they run away, which is folklore Hiyakawa read on the Internet. Keeping ahold of Mikado who slumps over disorientated, Hiyakawa states when paranormal stuff happens, they say it is good to think of erotic things. When Mikado touches him, Hiyakawa can see very clearly and deploys a streak of energy to deal with the spirit before them. With a letting agent concerned about a potential angry spirit, Hiyakawa assures him it is just someone who could not enter the reclamation-rebirth cycle, so there is a sort of energy in the air that is not where it should be. Hiyakawa asserts to Mikado that if he is with him, he will never be scared anymore. Waiting for Mikado, he wants an assistant since the work is exhausting to do alone. The cover for this is his profession of running a property appraisals and cleaning service. Hireable as an exorcist, Hiyakawa's unique methods means he never fails. Hiyakawa comments it feels good when two souls touch and with Mikado's he deemed they were highly compatible. He can make contact with spirits in order to expel them, where Mikado is used as a booster, to in his words, clobber the ghost. Saying as much when taking ahold of Mikado and able to discern how clearly, he can see, Hiyakawa contacts what is akin to his soul. Upon spotting Mikado, he speaks his destiny is him. Remembering Hiroki's words that he was a bit of a monster himself, Mikado feels he is human. Overcome with malaise, Mikado absorbs there were once people who lived, then died. Where he sees ghosts in human form, with Hiyakawa's contact, he perceives a red cloud like mass with multiple eyes. Distressed at events, Mikado affirms it is not alright. Using a notepad and pen to document information from people, Mikado also observes lately he feels there is less distance between himself and the ghosts. With Hiyakawa sharing his senses to sharpen them, Mikado can hear details of crimes that he could not before. Wondering how Hiyakawa is going to go about this case, Mikado states he cannot find something like part of a corpse. Listening to Hiroki ponder a dismemberment case, Mikado announces he has stomachache. Requesting some more water for Hiyakawa, he states rather than a superpower, it is just reading the situation. Unsure if he can overcome the fear, Mikado adds living humans might be way more terrifying. Accepting the job soon after, Mikado shares it scares him how all his pent-up lust just vanished. Pointing out a ghost to Hiyakawa, he finds with contact a purple stream of energy can be fired from him to vanquish the spirit. Avoiding the ghosts, he is capable of seeing since he is afraid of them is also a reason for initially declining to become Hiyakawa's assistant. The reason he takes his glasses off is to keep his distance from those things. Being honest, Mikado tells Hiyakawa he is scared. Confirming he can see ghosts to his manager, Yamai, he means to get a brain scan one day. With it the first time he has ever fainted, when Hiyakawa is speaking on it being destiny, Mikado interjects to assume he is a fraud. Removing his glasses causes the ghosts to become more visible, where living people are blurred. He is described as a serious and staid bookstore clerk. Mikado also keeps his own spiritual powers a secret. Working in a bookstore, Mikado notes there are some things his eyes see with strange clarity. When this odd couple gets together to solve the bizarre cases that come their way, their work methods may not be entirely safe for work! Rihito Hiyakawa, an exorcist whose supernatural powers are as strong as his social graces are weak, doesn’t seem to fear anything, mortal or otherwise. Shy bookstore clerk Kosuke Mikado has the ability to see ghosts and spirits, an ability he wishes he didn’t have, since what he sees usually terrifies him.
